Description
The Offering: A contemplative piece on the myth of Persephone and Hades.
There are many versions of this story. In one, Hades tricks Persephone into staying in the Underworld by offering her pomegranate seeds before she leaves. She eats them, binding herself to him forever. To bring her daughter back, Demeter strikes a deal with Zeus: Persephone will spend half the year above ground and half below, creating the seasons; Spring and Summer when they are reunited, Autumn and Winter when Persephone returns as Queen of the Underworld. My sculpture captures the moment Hades offers the seed. Was it deception, or was it a choice? Some say Persephone was tricked. Others believe she took control of her fate, embracing her dual nature as both the daughter of a goddess and the ruler of the dead.
