THE BLACK PAINTINGS, Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746–1828)
The Black Paintings are 14 dark and mysterious works Goya painted between 1819 and 1823, towards the end of his life.
He painted them as murals on walls in his house. They where later transferred to canvas and are now in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
Goya did not give titles to the paintings. The names used for them are designations employed by art historians.
The End (The Dog)
Tomas’ interpretation: The black dog ghts in vain against the waves.
Death cannot be avoided, no matter what you do or believe. The end.
