About the artist

Born in 1969 in rural England, Catherine began painting at 16, large and abstract. She has continued to paint all through her life, though after coming to live on Gozo in 2006, her painting world opened up, surrounded by the intense beauty of the Gozian landscape. She considers herself a colourist and works in oils, her paintings which she terms ‘soulscapes’. Her absolute fascination and focus lies in the question of how to express the experience of natural light in nature; whether it be light on or under the sea or on an organic surface such as rock. Her paintings are all contemporary abstracts in oil. The painting process is a long one, creating a rich history of surface with multiple layering, mark making and intricate texture. She takes immense joy from her painting work and has exhibited on a regular basis locally since committing to painting full- time in 2017. She has her paintings in private homes throughout Europe. She works daily from her studio, based in the Marsalforn bay. Catherine has a B.A. (hons) degree in art with art history and also psychology (1990) as well as post graduate diploma in art therapy.
